Minutes

  1. Apologies for absence:
Peter Walker (who may arrive late)
    Present:
Kim Power (co-ordinator), Denis Walker (secretary), Jon Fuller, Sarah Fuller, Sue Willis-Green, Michael Downer, Michael Woolcott
  2. Minutes of last meeting:
    Approved
  3. Role of Co-ordinator:
Kim Power regrets that due to pressure of work, he is unable to devote enough time to the rôle of SEEFoE Co-ordinator and therefore is resigning the position.
JF expressed the group's debt of gratitude to KP for the work he has done in restarting SEEFoE and the amount achieved during his term in office, particularly Climate Change campaigning.
Denis Walker was then nominated as Co-ordinator by JF and seconded by KP.
Sarah Fuller was nominated as Secretary to replace DW in that rôle by KP and seconded by JF.
A vote was then taken for both positions and both were passed unanimously.
  4. Campaigns:
    • Temple Sutton:
Nina was handling this. We've not heard from her recently. KP will phone her to find out where her resource pack came from so we can look into proceeding without her if she's no longer in this area.
SF pointed out that this would be a time-consuming project - there would be deadlines to meet for funding and lots of different organisations to contact. It would also be necessary to put more expensive components of the project out to tender. The Energy Saving Trust has been involved in funding a percentage of total costs for individual energy-saving items.
At this point Peter Walker arrived.
PW will ask Frank Gulley if he has heard from Nina.
    • Big Ask Action:
There are a number of ways to take part in the Climate Change Bill consultation. FoE are asking for at least an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050. This is based on a recommendation by the IPCC. However, The Hadley Centre for Climate Change is now recommending a 90% reduction based on more recent evidence. Two key points to make in consultation responses therefore are that we should be aiming for a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions and that this reduction must include aviation and shipping. JF will provide hard copies of the consultation to anyone without Internet access.
  5. Next meeting:
The next meeting will be on 5th June 2007 at 7:30pm at 14, Scratton Road.
  6. AOB:
    • MW asks "Where can you recycle foil milk bottle tops (from glass bottles)?". As these are just foil, they can be recycled in the SBC pink sacks. This doesn't apply to the inner seal on plastic milk bottles.
    • On the subject of SBC's recycling, MD points out that we still haven't seen Cory's recycling plant. Is any of our recycling being sent to China for processing, resulting in unnecessary CO2 emissions?
