Minutes

  1. Apologies for absence:
Jon Fuller, Sarah Fuller, Kim Power, Sue Willis-Green
    Present:
Denis Walker (DW), Peter Walker (PW), Michael Woolcott (MW), Michael Downer (MD), Gabrielle Yeadell (GY)
  2. Minutes of last meeting:
    Proposed DW. Agreed by all.
  3. Climate Change Speaker Training:
Eileen Peck of WEN emailed DW suggesting we could jointly organise a one-day Climate Change Speaker Training day run by the Climate Outreach and Information Network. DW has suggested that SEEFoE could put some money towards this and is waiting for more details from Eileen.
  4. Marinet:
Marinet is the Marine Information Network of Friends of the Earth local groups. DW has been contacted by their Co-ordinator, Stephen Eades, enquiring as to whether our group would like to join - free of charge. DW will investigate and join Marinet while at Conference next weekend. Stephen Eades had been following the story of the SBC proposal to build a commuter car park on Shoebury East Beach and it was through this that he had contacted DW. DW provided details of a local residents' meeting he and Jon Fuller attended about this issue. All in attendance at the meeting were opposed to the idea and Roger Hadley, the councillor who had made the proposal, quickly withdrew it.
  5. Agrofuels event:
Irene Willis has suggested that we organise an event about Agrofuels and has provided a paper on the subject. She has a contact who can give a talk.
  6. Forthcoming Events:
  7. Next meeting:
The next SEEFoE meeting will be on 2nd October at 7:30pm at 62 East Street, Southend.
  8. AOB:
Renaissance Southend DW, PW, MD and Jon Fuller have put together an alternative to Renaissance Southend's Master Plan for Southend. Whereas Renaissance Southend are promoting the expansion of Southend Airport as the key to Southend's regeneration, our plan concentrates on the use of renewable technologies in line with the Government's new Climate Change supplement to Planning Policy Statement 1. The SEEFoE plan is available at http://www.seefoe.org.uk/regeneration and was the subject of a front page headline in the Yellow Advertiser.
